Have you ever been in a traffic accident before? It's not an experience that you want to happen, if you can avoid it. However please how great of a driver you may be, another person can easily get into an accident with you. If that happens then you need to know what to do in a traffic accident, then get to know these easy steps of what to do so that you will be prepared.
It's easy to be overwhelmed when you get into an accident, especially if there's a lot of damage. Regardless of who's fault it is, always take a minute to cool off and compose yourself. Take a deep breath in and out. Whatever you do, do not yell at the other person. That will only make things worse. Likewise if the other person yells at you, do not even bother answering back, let them vent their steam. Check to see if anyone is hurt and call for help if needed.
Call the police.
The general rule of thumb is to call the police, so that they can be an outside witness to the damage and take both parties stories. They will write up a report, and you will need a copy of it for your insurance company.
Take a picture.
Almost all cell phones have cameras inside of them these days, and it'll come in handy if you get into an accident. Take pictures of the damage to both cars, and the surrounding area. With pictures you can show who is at fault, especially if it is obvious by where and how you were hit.
Exchange contact information with the other person, in addition to their drivers license, car registration, insurance policy number, and license plate number. You will need to submit all of this information into your insurance agency so that they can cover the repairs to your car.
Call your insurance agency.
Once you have all the appropriate information, you will need to call your insurance agency. Do not wait several days and put it off. The quicker you call them and give them the necessary information, the quicker you will be able to be reimbursed for the cost of repairs for your car.
Get multiple quotes.
Do not take your car in to be repaired by just anyone. Get multiple quotes from different mechanics. You do not want to pay more than you need to, especially if you have a high deductible and it was your fault. Dealerships will cost an arm and a leg, so avoid them if possible.
